HISTORY OF MULANAY

 

Legend relates thatb Mulanay derived its name fromthe tagalog word Malunay which means"plenty of Lunay". Lunay is the verracular term for pili wax which is abundant in the area.

The Evangelization of Mulanay FranciscanMissionaries was in 1980. However, its civil foundation as a municipalit was effected only in 1945 thru theapproval of the king of Spain as. contained in the royal decree. This town at that time encompose the municipalterritories of Sn. Narciso,Sn.Francisco,Catanauan and Sn. Andress which if measured will be as big as the procvince of Bataan. The territorial land that was left is now called Mulanay. After giving the four Municipalities thier local autonomy. Mulanay's territorial jurisdiction was reduce to 42,000 hectares.

The original town of Mulanay was composed only 6 barrangay the majority of the town populace refed to live exactly where the town is situated now. When pirates frequently plundered the place.

The people of the Mulanay is composed of different ethics group like Tagalog, Visayas and Bikolanos. Althougth they have some disimilarities they could manage to live harmoniously with love respect and understanding that served as great factors towards valuable changes for progress.

The first town head of Mulanay During the Spanish Regime was Alcalde Mayor Eustapulo Manlangit, while the first townn mayor during the american occupation was Mayor Atanacio Ojeda. The Municipality had been tweenty six mayor from Spanish Regime the incmbent mayor is Hon. Prodencio Maxino Jr.

At present Mulanay is composed of 28 barangays four of whish comprised the poblacion. The municipality is an agriculturalas well as an industrial town under the 3rd district of Quezon Province.From her rich soil, farm crops like coconut,garlic,banana,rice,corn,peanut,mango,ginger,squash and other vegetable are abundantly harvested.

It has a population of 45,903 based on NSO census sy 2000 and is classified as a third class municipalities which an annual of P41,091,624.54 in sy 2000. The richness of Mulanay not only lies in her baried tresures,beatiful harvest from the vast fertire lands but also on her industrious peace, loving, happy,hospitablr and good fearing people.
